Thanksgiving is a great time to maximize the beautiful in-season flowers & greens that accentuate fall colors. This season, we used luscious rich tones of bronze and mauve and made it pop against white hydrangeas. To be sure the finest blooms were going out to our customers, we made a trip to the Los Angeles Flower District. Here is a little glimpse into our day of arranging from start to finish...
Floral designers and florists are among the lucky who get to enter into the rapid hustle and bustle of the flower district. It's not a visit for those slow to move or shy to get what they need before it's all gone. The markets open as early as 2 am to the trade but do have public hours in the later morning. There is a lot of ground to cover and you never quite know what beautiful or exotic flower or greenery the vendors might have received that morning. A visit for someone who is in love with flowers as much as I am, can be quite the rush.
Once the flowers are purchased, they must then be cleaned, stripped and prepped.
My favorite part begins - the arranging! This season, we made a few different sizes and looks available for purchase. From tarnished bronzed metal containers to shiny glam-glazed ceramics, we were expressing fall in as many ways as we could.
